An innovative new project being launched on Kickstarter, called Batband, is poised to revolutionized the way that people enjoy personal audio. Although the name of the prospective product brings forth notions of an item on Batman’s utility belt, it’s truly not that far from being so technologically advanced. This semicircular band, as it could really only be described, sits around the back of one’s head with ends that stop just above the ears. The Batband uses three transducers – one on the back of the skull and one on each temple – that emit sound waves at the frequency necessary for what is called bone conduction. This means that the music – or phone call, GPS, etc. – is sent directly to your inner ear, leaving your outer ear available for whatever your busy life may throw at you. With built-in touch sensitive buttons and dials, you can adjust its function to better meet your own. Despite the overwhelming popularity of noise-canceling headphones, we wouldn’t be surprised to see this technology making a major run in the next few years.
