What has now nearly become a household name was once just a small company trying to make hats in 1934 for a team called the Cleveland Indians. Two decades later, Harold, son of New Era founder Ehrhardt Koch, would go on to modernize the fitted hat and launch it on an evolutionary trajectory toward the specimen that is the contemporary New Era 59FIFTY official on-field cap. Now, over 80 years since the company first began capping ball players, their hats are second to none. With modifications like switching materials from wool to polyester and then, later, enhancing that polyester to literally wick away moisture from a players head, these hats have become more than just hats. They now stand as icons, not just of professional baseball, but of quality and devotion. There’s no more reasonably priced way to be wearing the very same garment that your favorite player is wearing on the field, and there’s no better way to top off a casual outfit for a romp around town, either.
